take 12 x 12 tarp 1/2reflective,1/2 clear

NO rule says you can't. practice on some cheap sheet plastic, learn exactly where to cut and fold it in order to make the vertical clear side double layer and the back, and ends reflective, single layer. Mark the 12x12 accordingly, so that you can set it up as a shelter in half an hour, after making the ridgepole and the stakes, which takes half an hour to include notching the tree and the ridgepole and making the tripod that supports the other end of the 4x4x7ft shelter.

Later, you can add the second layer of fabric to the backs and sides of the lean-to, using 50 sq ft cut from the 20x20 tarp that they give you. That will take at most 2 hours, to include gathering the needed debris, stuffing it between the layers of tarp and taping the edges, so that the air between the tarps is trapped there. They also give you a 10x10 tarp, but you can't cut it up. That means that you CAN cut up the 20x20, but nobody's had brains enough to do so. You only need about 1/4 of it as membrane. the rest of the 20x20 can become cordage or netting.

Even if they wont allow the clear side of the tarp, a reflective tarp is still helpful. The lean to can taper down to 3x3 ft at the foot end. You'll save body heat and tarp that way, ,and be out nothing. The remainder of the 12x12 tarp, with tape, can become your poncho, hood, leggings, breech clout, mittens, booties in one hour. Stuff debris bewteen this layer of tarp clothing and your other clothing. Stuff debris between the tarp clothing and the 10x10 tarp. Put debris on your raised bed, Have a cold air single hole in your shelter.

With all this and the many layers of clothing that you are allowed to take, and later, making the igloo, you have no need at all of a sleeping bag. So you get one freed up pick that way. Ditto the pick freed up by taking the saw-edged E tool and the modified crunch multitool, as vs saw, axe and belt knife. You save a pick by taking the rope hammock instead of the gillnet and the paracord. You save two more by not taking the ferrorod or the cookpot. That's how you can take the salt, the pemmican, the snarewire, the Duct tape, the slingbow, all of which are far more useful than the items that they replace.

if you never have to use the outside fire to radiate heat thru the clear side of the lean to, then you wont need the clear material, eh? In fact, you'll benefit by having all reflective sides to your lean to. and you'll still have the option of heating the shelter with large, hot stones in pits under the raised bed. That's certain to be enough shelter/warmth until you can make an igloo. and it requires very little in the way of firewood. This is true because you can heat the stones adquately in half an hour, while they warm you for 4 hours.
