9 miles, 3:40, 40 lbs, flat pavement
 
I used gaterade all the way, a bit cooler than last time, but fighting a 30 mph head wind, 40 mph gusts for 3 miles of it. Had a tumpline over my head and trekking poles. Wouldnt have made it without the poles to lean on in that effing wind. Im not as wiped-out as I was last time. Paced myself better, had better hydration/electrolytes. I couldn't do a damned thing for the rest of the day last time. Just laid around for 2 hours, slept 2 hours, and then just laid around some more. Today, I could walk another 6 miiles with that load, if I had to. Rest an hour, walk a mile, rest half an hour, etc. :-)

Why the tumpline? Would a hip belt (or some kind of hip supports) on the pack help reduce the need for that?

I don't think he knows how to properly fit a pack. (A few pictures would help diagnose the issue)

If the torso length is correct, the hip belt properly situated across the hips, and the load lifters are properly tightened, you would not need the tumpline at all.

There is a reason you don't see them very often if at all. You don't need them with proper gear.

24.5 minute miles is a pretty good pace with a loaded pack.

what was the terrain type? <- never mind saw the flat pavement :nuts:
