A couple of weeks ago a real life disaster happened in my area. A major tornado ripped through and left power out for two day's and many people homeless. Did armed bands start marauding? Did people start killing and eating (yechh!) each other? Did an "every man for himself" attitude prevail? Not hardly. The first thing that happened was neighbors getting together to provide help. No government authority, just rural people helping out. Some of my former National Guard and LEO friends drove to the area, (picking me up along the way), and provided food, shelter, and security to the people affected. No great fanfare, just did what had to be done. Local Law Enforcement was overwhelmed, of course, but there was not one incident of looting. Everybody was packing openly which is NOT against the law, but I also saw some pretty suspicious bulges. The main point is people helped each other, didn't turn predator, and that is how most Americans will react. ANd John, what are going to do with your wife when your pedalling that mountain bike hunting dog's to eat? Or would you have eaten her already?

Gunkid has so far refused to discuss what he would do with his wife. In my humble opinion if he posted the truth, told everybody and she read it, his butt would have burn marks on it caused by travelling through the out door so quickly.

That's usually the case with localised disasters. However, in localised disasters, relief from neighboring communities, towns, cities, states, etc. is available, and everybody sees a end to the problems in a relatively short time. We haven't faced a long-term widespread (like nationwide or worldwide) catastrophy before. Even a depression like the one in '29 would not be dealt with like the original IMO. People are less self-sufficient today and less tolerant of "inconvenience". Do you not see potential situations where societal breakdown would occur? Mike |

Well. I try to be upbeat, and all, so I don't foresee a massive breakdown in society. And I have great faith in Americans. We would have tough times, but I think we would eventually pull together. I live in a rural community, not urban. I can see urban communities going to h*ll in a handbasket as soon as vital services are cut off. Rural people seem more adaptable. I especially like the Canadians attitude. "Snowbound? better shoot a moose, eh?"

GK's got a pretty good situation. He's better positioned already than most people who would like to have a retreat. Just being in that area is a major plus. Come SHTF he's probably going to stay put, fort up at the homestead, and chuckle his ass off at the poor schmucks who read the web and took off on foot or mountain bikes to be hobos of the apocalypse. ![]() As for SHTF, there is another world war coming and a blind man can see the economic future holds a tidal wave of grief. That's also not counting civil unrest in the USA over racial and political strife plus whatever Al-CIAda decides to do next. |

I think that MELVIN'S WIFE, is probably in denial, over what must be a stark, obvious, fact. But, some people are so desperate, for companionship, they make many foolish decisions. They make these foolish decisions, when they start getting up in years. MELVIN'S wife is no spring chicken. Neither is MELVIN, for that matter. I have seen this happen many times. Bill

The problem for MELVIN, is his age. MELVIN is fifty-two years old, according to his drivers license. At fifty-two years old, you're rapidly going down hill, physically. How is an out-of-condition, fifty-two year old man going to ride a mountain bike all over those Colorado Rocky Mountains. I think MELVIN had better look at how the terrain is stacked on end, in his area, and develop a better plan of attack. Too bad OLD MELVIN is afraid of horses. Quote:

I think you are right, about a coming Great Depression, worse than the one that hit in 1929. I think the middle east type of Terrorism against americans, and american targets, at home and abroad, are going to be a continuing fact of life for us. Some of our own citizens may join in the terrorists. Louis Farakhan probably has contingency plans already made. Unhappy groups, with their tender feelings on their sleeves, may be a facator to contend with. The middle east events are showing them how to act out. Sooo, home grown terrorists are probably going to be a fact of life. Anyone want to accuse me of profiling? I wish I didn't think that way, but I can't see any other viable scenario for the United States. There isn't going to be a massive, earth shaking apocalypse, as espoused by MELVIN, where people are out causing massive, nation wide, continuing riots, in the streets. I don't think hordes of ravening refugees will desecreat the country sides either. This may happen close in to some major cities, but not all over the country. However, I think there will be, many people like MELVIN, who will probably have to be dealt with, using extreme prejudice. Bill
