Well it arrived and since it's new to me any advice would be appreciated. If I understand correctly the kit is more suited to 1/12 rifling rather than 1/7. M SP-1's would probably be more accurate, no? I'm going to install the kit and try it out tomorrow. Here's the kit in all it's plastic packed glory. it was $225.00 delivered with three 25 round magazines.

Generally yeah the slower rifling the better and if the bore is well not really to say broken in but "seasoned" smooth on a small scale from use and cleaning all the better.

I've never shot the old ciener kits in a 1-12 but the 1-9 on the otherwise POS Carbon-15 shot decently out to 100yds.
One final word these are picky at times so you may want to experiment some between different rifles regardless of twist rate
Sometimes you never know.

I've had decent reliability results with several ammunition choices, especially minimags (which seem to run in anything), federal 36-grain bulk hp, and remington's subsonic non-plated 38-grain HP load.

The gun I mostly used mine in had a 1:9 twist and it did okay, good enough for squirrels out to maybe 50 yards or so. The heavier the bullet, the better it 'should' like the faster twist. I always wished I could use the Aguila SSS load, since it's a 60-grainer and should like the same rifling as a 60 grain .223 bullet, or at least close to it. Never could get it to be reliable in any semiauto though.

If you get occasional failures to fire, check your firing pin. Never had this particular issue with my ciener, but once with the cmmg. My cmmg 22 upper started getting failures to fire, maybe one round out of five or six, and it took me a while to figure out that the firing pin was broken in just the right place that it was still held captive, but could rotate in the channel. Like most 22 firing pins it's more of a blade shape (like a flat-tip screwdriver) at the tip rather than a round shape like most centerfire firing pins, and when it was rotating freely inside the bolt, it would hit the round with enough force to ignite it, but turned in such a way that it missed the priming compound in the outer rim:

Once I found it and replaced the firing pin, all was good. But something to watch for if your gun acts like it's getting light strikes or bad ammo.

I bought the CMMG (Echo) kit about 9 years ago. The magazine was complete garbage, once the magazine was inserted into the mag well, it took 2 fifty six year old men over 10+ minutes to remove the mag. I bought 8x Black dog magazines, load them to 23 rds each instead of 27 rds and I have flawless performance with Federal Champion, blue box bulk pack .22 ammunition. Results with cheaper .22 will have mixed results in functioning.

I started loading the magazines and started having trouble after 22 rounds and then realized they were 25 round magazines not 35. I could have swore the ad said 35, but that's what I get for swearing. Then went to jack in a rounds and of course the bolt stopped at about an inch. I let the bolt go slightly forward and of course had a mis- feed. Starting over I did it right this time and fired 75 rounds without a single problem. At 25 yards the group was very tight, but about two inches low. At 100 yards the group was about four inches, but again low. I have the AR battle sighted for .223 of course. I'm going to crank up the sight and give it a go later. It's very pleasant to shoot with no recoil at all in the Colt Carbine and the sights don't move a bit. It's a lot of fun to shoot. I'm glad I bought it. Now all I need is a "can", some peanut butter and Tang and I'm ready. I don't know if they improved the magazines but they worked fine.

Kit got dirty after about 125 rounds and started not fully seating the next round. I was at an away range so I didn't have any cleaning supplies with me. Maybe bring a can of Gun Scrubber next time? Anyway cleaned it at home. I did notice the Golden Bullet's seem to dirty it up pretty quick. 2 inches low at 25 yards, dead on at fifty yards, and 2 inches low at 100.

I have run my Echo kit, through 250+ rds during 3 gun rimfire matches using Federal Champion Blue box bulk ammunition. When I purchased my kit, I went out and purchased about 22 different varieties of .22 to determine which would run flawlessly during a match. Federal came out the winner.

check to see how it works with the "long range' wing of the rear sight. sometimes flipping it up will bring you a lot closer to zero. I've never used the CMMG unit, but it's made exactly like the Ciener. I've owned 9 of the Ciener's and had serious problems with several. The lack of a bolt hold open can cause you to dryfire it in advertantly if you're not careful. This will soon bugger up the back end of the barrel and the tip of the firing pin. The Ciener unit costs twice as much. I"ve known them to group just fine in 1 in 9" riling, never tried them in 1 in 7". Dont ever substitute powdered lemonade for the Tang, and PB, or you'll be very sorry. It clogs up your waterworks. Stick with KoolAid if you're too cheap to buy Tang.

If you have failures to extract, with empty cases getting stuck in the bolt, remove the extractor, put a little shim at the bottom of the spring-hole and replace the extractor. I also once had one with too small a breechface cut. It would slam-fire. I had another that I had to seriously lighten the bolt. and I mean drill holes all over the place and grind-square the recoil spring housing-tunnel

Save it Melvin. I don't take advice from felons.
