After listening to all the politicians so far this year and with some of the anti gun legislation being passed, these make more sense than they did a few years ago

I love some leverguns and glad to see these, but imo the one failing of several of them is caliber. To me, 'tactical' inherently carries the connotation of 'defensive', and the tube magazines on these all inherently limit capacity; so the long rifle-caliber options strike me as a bad idea.

Personally, no way I want a defensive carbine in .458 SOCOM or .45-70 caliber to begin with. But even the more reasonably-powered calibers like .30-30 and such, you can achieve very similar ballistics in a shorter cartridge that offers more rounds in the same tube length, and in a 'tactical' gun, eight rounds is better than five.

Of those, I really like the Rossi .357 version, but it may just be because it's so close to the version I cobbled up years ago and have had such good luck with. (Although mine's old enough to not have the silly manual safety on it.)

Threaded for a suppressor, up to 1200 ft/lbs or so, higher capacity than the longer-cartridge versions... Put a low-mounted Sparc-AR or similar on it and it'd be about as good a defensive gun as a person could get if they couldn't have a semiauto or box-fed gun, and still manage to be a VERY good brush gun at the same time.

All that said, if someone would offer either a levergun or pump gun in .357 magnum or .45Colt that used a detachable magazine, it would be a phenomenal choice for folks in places where semiautos are banned or harshly restricted.

And if someone offered a semiauto carbine in .357 magnum with a detachable magazine, that would be a very good defensive carbine for at least 95% of people's needs imo. Hitting 1200 ft/lbs in a short 16" barrel is more than adequate for defensive use, and even more than enough for a lot of deer-size hunting applications.

I have a few lever guns, all Marlins, 444, 41 Mag., 3030, 45 LC, 44 Mag, 357 Mag, they seem to grow! Shoot them all quite a bit. Had to put a slip on recoil pad on the 444, tired of bruised shoulder. 265 Gr. Hornaday with a case full of 4895 hurts. All are scoped with Leoupold 3x9 More accurate than most people think.

BBM, a couple of years back, I had my 11 years old nephew put 50 rds of .45-70 through my Shilo Sharps one afternoon. I down loaded the cartridge to using 13.0 grains of Unique with a 405 grain bullet and he had a ball ringing steel at 100 yds. I'm all for downloading.

no, they dont. The point is to kill the politicians with the autorifles, while you can still put up a fight. they'll take your levers, your bolts, your repeating shotguns, then your single shots, then the crossbows, pellet guns and swords, as they've done in japan and britain.

John - please, be nice and calm down. You've had multiple opportunities to fight back and have submitted to handcuffs every time. And that's not meant as an insult, either. Most times that's the smart thing to do when faced with armed officers. But don't you see the flagrant silliness & hypocrisy in telling people that they need to do something that you yourself have repeatedly chosen not to do?

WTF is wrong with you?

We are a long ways away from needing the bullet box.
