I was corresponding with a Canadian gentleman about the Ruger 9MM Carbine and he told me the Ruger Carbine with a 10 shot magazine is Not Restricted in Canada. Unfortunately, I lost contact with him so I'll ask here. Maybe Garand can fill me in. I thought semi-automatic rifles were limited to a five round magazine with the exception of the M-1 Garand. All Rifles capable of more than five rounds were in a Restricted status. Not true? Also, no handguns at all allowed into Canada for purposes of self defense. Correct? Thanks for any help.

You are correct, about the 5rd limit on semi auto rifles. Semi autos that handle pistol magazines are in a legal grey area, but legal as long as they only hold a max of 10 rds and marked as for the pistol. I have 2x10 rds magazines designed, marked and sold for an AR15 pistol. They just happen to fit my Armalite. If your going to bring a handgun north, you better be planning to shoot a match and have the paperwork to back it up, or you are out of luck.
