Henry Side Gate Lorder

Anyone here own the New Lever Action Henry Side Gate Lorder rifle? If so what's your opinion of the rifle!

Don't have one, but they're received good reviews on other forums I've read, and 22 plinkster (on youtube) really seemed to like it.

I'm a competitive Cowboy Action shooter, I'd be an idiot to shoot a Henry. Nice gun for plinking, not built for competition.

Why is that? Durability, lever-throw length, or...?

Overly complicated, no aftermarket accessories, overly expensive, long lever throw, no gunsmiths willing to take on these rifles. Great plinker, great hunting rifle, terrible competition rifle. Most competitors who have one, replace it by their 5th match.

So this is not just a copy of a Marlin 336?

Similar, but I don't know the extent of mechanical differences. Main things I've heard people talk about are the drop in marlin quality since remington acquired them. Never owned one of these newer "Remlin" guns, but there's a lot of gripes about them online. Also, cosmetically they're nicer to a lot of people. The brass look gives them a nice bling that a lot of 30-30 buyers wouldn't normally get, yet the 'brass' that henry uses is actually harder than a lot of the steels used for gun receivers nowadays so longevity should be very good. Supposedly, they're surprisingly accurate as well, with crowned muzzles.

Again, just hearsay and junk I've read online. Never owned one; the only Henry rifle I have is a 22 rimfire that seems nice but that I've used almost not at all.

John, Honestly I bet most of the online complaining about the new Remington/Marlin is probably over blown I know they likely did have some QC problems during the transition period.

Now today I don't know. I've had lemons from Colt and S&W. I've had two relatively newly made Rem 700's with zero issues. Not saying they don't squeeze out a turd now and then though.

The only Marlins I've owned or had experience with parkerizing were the 336's and a Guide Gun or two but all older. The 336's we're 30-30's and older pre idiot switch as I detest the cross bolt safety's.

Fwiw in real life I've never heard anyone complain about the new Marlins in recent memory. But I've never paid much attention.
