Excellent read, can't see myself not owning one. https://www.tactical-life.com/firear...w93ueE6sEJBrtE |

I'd say it may well have been the "greatest of ITS time", but not of all time. It was a great step forward at the time. That is equally said of the 1911, and the 1873 revolver before it. Could be said (imo) of the 1892 levergun, the caplock, the flintlock, etc. "For their time", they were the best there was. There was a time when the newfangled indoor wood-fired stove was culinary state-of-the-art. Doesn't mean it would always be the case. Same goes for wristwatches, cars, shoes, whatever. The guns, stoves, vehicles, shoes, etc, that are top of the heap today will absolutely, eventually be eclipsed in one way or another; nothing stays stagnant in the long run. |

It'll take a some sort of ray-gun to displace the M4. Nothing is on the horizon that will make it worth doing for our military. The rifle just doesn't account for enough on the battlefield for the military to spend much time or money on it. As long as our enemies have nothing better than an AK, the M4 will suffice.

Melvin, I didn't say its the only rifle I'd want, I said I wouldn't want to be without one. As for the M92, yes it is a good rifle. That said I have sold 2 of my 3 of them(3rd one is up for sale currently). The problem is that when you are practiced with the rifle it starts to stove pipe ammunition as you run it faster. I replaced them with 4 Winchester M73 clones that can run as fast as a semi auto if you have a skilled operator. Also my M1 does compliment my Armalite M4A4.

I never said anything about what anyone wants. I said the M4 will remain our fighting rifle which will eventually make it the greatest, since it will have been used more and killed more people than the Garand.
