Suggestions for AR-15 Scope?

Hello everyone!! I've been looking for a while to try to find the best range ar-15 scope. After approximately two hours of surfing the web, I found the Vortex Viper 6.5-20x50mm BDC.

What do you guys think? Any suggestions?

Any preferences of what you plan to use it for? Bench shooting, deer hunting, defensive use, etc.

Also, what kind of AR..? A short, light carbine, a heavy-barrel precision gun, etc.

If the AR is the stavdard, by these days M4 style a Leopold VXR Patrol Rifle Scope would do.

My personal preferences -

For a defensive gun, I like a red dot.

For a hunting gun, I like a 'medium' scope; especially the Leupold 1-4X 'shotgun' scope. They're awesome little scopes and surprisingly inexpensive.

If it's a do-all carbine (defensive and some hunting use), I'd maybe go with either the 1-4X type scope (1X for defensive use, crank up to 4X for hunting) or else a slightly magnified sight like an eotech or acog; something in the ~3X fixed range.

As far as bench-rest AR's, I have only one. It has a Zeiss Terra-3X 3-9x42, that I happened to catch on closeout at less than half price.

I've never used the Vortex Viper, but have a couple Vortex red dots that are better than they should be for the price.

I have 3 different Red Dots for my AR, but I rarely ever shoot it past 75-100 yds so I have never bothered putting anything else on it. As a matter of fact I had my AR out yesterday for the first time in a year.
