Practical Rifleman & the Scout Rifle

It’s been gratifying the last few years to see the increased popularity of the kind of medium-power scopes that he talks about. I lucked onto leupold’s 1-4X shotgun scope 20 years or more ago, and it and its cousins have become my go-to scopes for a whole lot of things; from AR carbines to handgun-caliber carbines to 22 rimfire. Big, big fan of that type of scope.

I still have mixed feelings about scopes. Only one of my rifles has been fitted with one and I still have no problems engaging targets (big ones) out to 500 yds with iron sights

I used to have really good eyes; 20/15 back in the 70's. But now, I can't shoot reliably more than a couple hundred yards with open sights, and even then probably not on targets less than 16"-18" in size.

I like 'Scopes on my Hunting rifle's, but I prefer iron sight's on Military rifles. I'm not that enamored with the E otec sight on my Colt LE6920.
