Bushmaster Upper Receiver Crack
Less than 300 rounds, the Carbon 15 cracked by the front receiver pin. Bushmaster service say's too bad, it's three month's out of warranty.

Oh, that sucks! How long have you had it?

Terry G 12-26-2016 07:50 PM

It's not mine, Garand. I only own Colt AR's. It's my Nephew. He's had it fifteen months, maybe 300 rounds! Checking around it seems there are more than a few Carbon 15's that have developed cracks. I'm admittedly prejudiced, I would have steered him to a Colt. But the Bushmaster Carbon 15 was half the price of a LE6920.

I guess I have been blessed, I have had my Armalite since 2000 and only had to replace a broken extractor.

My Son has an Armalite M-15, it has worked fine for years. I was leery when my Nephew told me he bought a Carbon AR, but I didn't want to hurt his feelings.

One guy I know was a big fan of the Carbon-15 due to its weight, but when I looked into them I found multiple reports of exactly what you describe, so never tried one.

Is the crack someplace that's repairable with a good epoxy, or just ruined at this point?

Terry G 12-27-2016 09:33 AM

It's by the screw/rivet at the front upper and lower receivers. I certainly would not trust an epoxy or other fix. Bushmaster sent him a return shipping label this morning without an argument. I'm going to suggest he have it repaired and trade it in or sell it on a different AR, Colt, my favorite is a little pricey for him, but their are plenty of other AR's out there, including regular Bushmaster's that have stood the test of time.
