I want to experiment with 1" of freebore in a 9mm

commander barrel, the hollowbased 45 gr solid aluinum bullet, and and powder taken from 22lr ammo. I'm assuming that .22 powder is faster burning than Bulleye, but such might not prove to be the case. if not, then the next step is powder from .22 blanks Given that the bullet doest have to obtur to the rifling for an inch of travel, pressures should drop a lot, almost instantaneously, as the bullet moves so easily down the bore. I suspect that 2400 fps can be had.from a regular 9mm case. I fully understand that you wusses cant figure out how to do such a thing safely, working up a load half a grain at a time, while chronographing each shot and miking the case at the web, but I can do so.

Fwiw, with 22TCM you can already get right at 2100fps (2080 clocked from my 1911) with a 40 grain JHP bullet in factory-loaded ammo; and will hit 2500 fps if hanloaded with Li’l Gun powder.

Might be worth looking into if you’re looking to launch uber-light bullets from an autopistol. They even have conversion kits for 9mm glock pistols that can use their even-faster 39-grain JHP load if you want a gun smaller than a 1911 size.

marginal expansion speed for a .22 softpont, but I thank you anyway. They should base one on the 9x23 and then they'd have something. the larger diameter 9mm slug lets me get the 2 diverging would cavities with the segmented bullet. However, the expansion of the bullet into the larger OD free-bore and then the taking of the rifling could break the Split Nose in half. That would require not making the saw kerf as deep in the bullet, requiring higher velocity at impact, or you'd not get the separation of the bullet. So it would be a balancing act. However, the abilty to make the kerf of different depths should be able to handle it.
