WIN 45 AUTO Ammo/Brass made by Sellier & Bellot (Czech)
I independently discovered, then found online discussions about, Winchester 45 AUTO ammunition -- hence cases -- being manufactured in the Czech Republic by Sellier & Bellot (S&B). The Winchester-headstamped S&B-made ammo/cases come in S&B size boxes (*), packed in 2 S&B polystyrene 25-round trays, with two single dots in the headstamp before and after WINCHESTER separating it from 45 AUTO. USA-made Winchester 45 AUTO comes in larger WWB boxes, with 50-round styrofoam trays, and with no dots in the headstamp.
From the reloading perspective, in the unlikely event you recover all 50 cases, all S&B cases whether headstamped S&B or WINCHESTER from a given box will weigh approximately the same but cases from the next box probably will differ significantly -- the reason I don't reload them. Other online chats on the subject discussed difficulties in seating certain brands of primers in S&B cases. I don't know about that; again, I don't reload them. I stick with the USA-made Remington (R-P) cases.
(*) Printed in Winchester White Box (WWB) color scheme, lacking the "Made in U.S.A." label, rather the bottom of the box printed "Made in Czech Republic."
And....that's supposed to be a bad thing?
I can understand the wish to buy American but S&B is nothing to sneeze at.
I have reloaded lots of S&B. Good brass. Primer pockets are a little tight, but that is what a primer pocket uniformer tool is for. I normally use it the first time I reload a case, then after that it is no problem..
S&B ammo is pretty good stuff and is normally priced pretty good too.....
