Please ID my new ammo.....please?

I just bought 200 dollars worth of .308 ammo that is headstamped "B81 7.62 R1M1". The only other marks are a stamp on the boxes that say 051 B05/81

It came in the plastic "battle packs" that seem to be common these days.

I assume the last stamp means x51 and it was made in May of 1981?

What the hell is is? The guy who sold it to me said that he wasn't sure if it was Portugese or South African. Anyone know for sure?

Please tell me that Hk-91's eat it like candy.......please?!?

No idea. My Port and SA don't have headstamps like that. Does it have the NATO cross in a circle on it?

Nope, no NATO circle on it anywhere.

I have a general rule of not shooting ammo from a country that I can't drink the water in. Lord I hope this isn't Indian...

That Indian ammo sucks.. And stinks. My CETME did not like the star of india. You're ammo is South African. You might want to take extra care cleaning your weapon after use.The South Africans used (ASPHALTUM) as a sealant.

That's pretty much what mine says except for the 180WAI1/80 CTN.

Mine says Lot 11/A/2/80

I guess that's just the lot number anyways.

Thanks! I feel much better now.

That stuff must be purple. The first thing I noticed was a purple sealant around the primers.
Thanks!
