Dangerous 7.62x25 Ammo

I picked this link up from another forum. This should be of interest to those that have CZ52, Tok T33, or other pistols firing 7.62x25 ammo.

http://www.geocities.com/Yosemite/Gorge/4653/bad.htm

A couple of years ago I bought another (I already had a couple) CZ52 at a gun show. I took it to the range, and before I finished the first clip it jammed. The jam turned out to be a burst barrel. I finally managed to get the gun apart and determined that there was no damage other than the burst chamber of the barrel. When I compared the recoil spring with those from some other CZ52s, I found it to be somewhat shorter. In view of this, I theorized at the time that gun had fired before being locked into battery due to the weak recoil spring. After reading the info on the above site, I think it's possible that it was the ammo. I haven't had a chance yet to go through my 7.62x25 ammo to see if I have any of this particular ammo.
That CZ52 is living a new life now as a 9mm. I bought a 9x19 barrel for it and a new recoil spring (I still had 2 CZ52s in 7.62). It shot accurately with the new barrel, but had some feeding problems. A little tweaking of the lips of the magazine cured that problem and she runs without a hitch now.
The CZ52 is a very accurate pistol, and very fun to shoot in 7.62x25. I can hit the 200 meter small deer silhouette at our range all day with very little holdover, and yet they shoot right on at close range. Very flat!!!
Best regards, BIGBORE

Thanks for the headsup. I just checked my 7.62x25 stash and the headstamp is 10 over 55. Never had any trouble with that batch but better to check.

Some armies have used pistol ammo loaded for SMG's, but not pistols. Sweden and China are two examples. Sometimes a nation will purposely inject bad ammo into their enemy's supply to demoralize the enemy's troops. The British did this in Malaya in the 1960's.

I don't know why this ammo is loaded to such pressures, but the CZ52 is very strong. You were fortunate not to be hurt.

The original issue roller locks on the CZ52 are sometimes not properly hardened which has caused an occasional failure. Just something to be aware of. Properly hardened roller locks are cheap insurance if you shoot the pistol a lot.
