The Basic AK
I have a Chinese AKS bought when they could still be imported. Using Wolf ammunition from a rest I have never gotten better than three inch groups with this gun at 100 yards. Now has anyone done consistently better with your basic AK? No one else who has shot it has done better either. I know current ones, modified, will do better, but I mean the original type.

I sold my Chinese SKS about 2 years ago. I used it as part of WW2 re-enactor matches, best I could do was 4-5 inches at 100 yds. Doing rapid fire the groups were even worse.

Best with my 1950Tula SKS:2 inches. When I had a Polytech Legend,3 inches was the average with crap ammo.OTOH,that copperwashed steelcore Chicom ball did better (still have 2 unopened spam cans) ,as did the M67 Yugoslavian brass cases ball( but DAMN that was dirty ammo). My spiker SKS runs about 2.5-3 inches. Does better with my diminishing stash of 154 grain soft point
Only AK I have now is the M92 pistol. Except for assuring zero("2" setting on the flip sights at 25 yards keot about 2.5 inches ) the groups run about fist sized but centered once distance goes out(50&75 yards). Surprised me ,because that front sight has a big dot that seems to be too big for the longer range flip aperature("4" setting). AK's can vary. A good stamping like a VEPR can be at least as good as a Legend, and other high quality 1mm stampings like Arsenal can surprise you with good ammo( vs cheap blasting ammo).
Sights and triggers. They all benefit from upgraded irons (Tech Sights,TWS etc) and some do that. Never going to Camp Perry, but even bone stock ones will go COM /Minute Of Torso at that 75-300 meter envelope.

I used to have 4 Norinco AKs I would take my best guess that with irons they averaged2.5" groups. With a scope on one the MAK-91 milled receiver s hair bit under 2".
A lot of tis is ammo dependent and I never messed with the other stuff like Corbon, Hornady Steel Match or Federal fusion. Nor reloaded for it though a friend had dies I could borrow.
I may get another at a later date but not in the immediate future.
And I agree the sight radius and design is

I saw a guy shoot 1 MOA with the Finnish Valmet version, iron sights, in 223 caliber. in foreign countries, maybe, in 20ak, but here, there's no reason to eff yourself out of all the goodies that come with the AR.

The old Valmets were great.. I wonder if/when that Kalashnikov USA finally tools up it will be a step in that direction....I got no hands-on with the current Galil offerings either, so I'm curious about them as well.

galil aint as good, from what I can tell. Valmets sell for HUGE money. To get something that can do all the things a properly set up AR can do costs you a ton more money than the AR setup will cost you. What's going to wear out or break on an AR? you can have a spare lower for $50, a spare upper for not a lot more than that.

The original IMI Galils were pretty good, but those Century Sporters were " problematic ". I've never handled it shot the current(ACE ?)offerings, so I got no information on those.
