want to upgrade from owning paper to owning real assets, like silver, and those who have silver will always want to upgrade to owning gold. So, you'lll always be able to trade small amounts gold for lots of silver, and silver for anything you need. Gold makes it much easier to conceal and travel with adequate amounts of tradable goods 1/2 mill $ in gold is just 20 lbs. YOu all think you can run and gun with 60 lbs of stuff. My BOB is 40 lbs, so I can also have enough gold, according to YOUR "thinking', at least, to retire anywhere in the world. When currency is worthless, there will be very little upon which to spend gold and silver, so a little bit of it will go a LONG ways. Long enough to let you outlive nearly everyone around you, and buy up a garden plot and pay people to work it for you. That will be about the extent of 'riches' for the next decade after shtf. I have no interest whatsoever in having an army or a fort, cause nobody can be trusted to not stab you in the back and I have not the slightest bit of power-lust in my heart. Some might wish 99% of the population was dead, but that's true only to get the non-productive out of the way of those who truly CAN think like human beings and produce what they need, without interference from the second-handers. It's not done because they desire the products of other's labor. Those others are not worth the food it takes to get any labor out of them.

and B - the "anywhere in the world" is always subject to the reality of "will they let you live there long term". Even if you hold a valid US Passport, many countries (more than 70 iirc) still require a pre-arranged visa just to even enter, even friendly countries like Brazil and Australia. And many more countries require a visa for stays of longer than 90 days. You might want to look into some articles on the subject or even some youtube videos on long-term visa requirements, and even second-citizenship ideas. I looked into this some after my wife got her terminal diagnosis, thinking I might want to chuck the whole US thing and move elsewhere, but I've pretty much changed my mind and plan to (probably) stay here even after she's gone. I've developed a real interest in eastern europe after visiting there a few years ago, and may spend some time there after she's gone; but since our sons live in the US, I pretty much doubt that I'll actually move there at this point. Check out Nomad Capitalist on youtube. He has some good information; it's a good starting point, but just a starting point. Don't base too much on just that one source. Quote:

If the balloon ever goes up, is Melvin going to eat gold? I would have thought other preparations were more important.

how do you reconcile not having a base (fort, whatever) and yet having a garden? Seems contradictory. If you have a garden, you are tied to a location. How do you reconcile not wanting power, yet paying people to work your garden? Sounds like you want to be the boss. who exactly are you going to buy this plot of land from if it is post SHTF? If everybody dies off, what value does gold have, and to whom? do you actually spend any time thinking this stuff through or do you just post whatever pops into your head? Please list the contents of your BOB, pictures would be nice, but you won't post any - because you don't actually have a BoB - but you've thought about it. | |
