Javelina

Have a handgun hunt coming up in early Feb, for Javelina. They are pig-like, but are not pigs. They are collared peccaries.

I'm going to be using a surpassed AR pistol in .300 Blackout. (Supersonic rounds though)

this will be a fun hunt, another right along the US - Mexico border.

Not going to rough it this time around, we found an AirBNB in a nearby town, next door to a bar and restaurant.

I'd love to hunt them or wild hog here in Arkansas.
Sadly the AG&FC is a bit screwy on their feral hog control plans, IMHO, and dose not want intentional hunting of them on public lands.
They think trapping is better than hunting.

I think a good plan is a combo of both.
Just post signs where the AGFC has their traps out.
Damn hogs can't read!

Feral hogs are becoming a problem up here on the prairies in Canada also. I get the impression that no government either provincial or state takes them seriously enough yet.

I'd love to come up to Canada to hunt them. (A Canadian bear hunt is on my list...)

Wisconsin has declared them Vermin. No license needed to hunt then. Since I've seen a grand total of one, they must be making problems in another part of the State. I'm going to check with the DNR and see where there having problems. I might take a road trip.

Hmmm, WI is just north of me, only thing the north country is kinda closed in Winter, An the bugs the rest of the year are terrible! Mosquitos the size of birds! Have to check into it, have some friends up there ab wonderful place to visit. Just don't go to BPS or Cabalas an ask for bass lures! Muskie an walleye. And they cook the worst fish I ever ate! Tried it all over the State, same thing. Lots of resturants can get to by boat.

I don't live near standing water so the Mosquito's are not bad here if we don't get a lot of rain. Go near the marshes and it's a different story. Bass fishing is our number one sport. Every sport's store in fifty miles is loaded with bass gear. My Son and I are catch and release guy's, we cook up some Canadian Walleye every year, but everything but Carp goes back.
