So. Cal hunting

is there anyone in this forum that lives in Southern CA and hunts local? I just started last year. I got a 30-06 and my wife got a .243. We were interested in hunting locally. W found that D-15 does not really have very good success rates, 4%, if your really lucky. We have seen many does but no bucks. We would like to meet others that do hunt in our local mnt's. I have searched and tried to find others but have came up empty handed. We would also like to try duck hunting but can't find anywhere local. We thought hunting would be a cost efficent way to get game meat. The nearest place to hunt ducks that I have found is at the salten sea, 300 miles and then its $175 for the blind, Thats not very cost efficent. We are thinking about going up to Sequoia Nat'l Forest next fall.
If you are local, I would like to hear from you. There are not to many people that hunt down here and there are even more that think it is illegal to hunt down here. The only people that don't are forest rangers and the police in the area.
