What have you got planned for the week?

01) Monday; heading to the range to make brass, I have about 250 rds of .44 Mag left over from my last session of load development that I need to get rid of.

02) Tuesday; weekly "old retired guy" group on the range shooting bianchi plates. I think this week I'll take out my Colt Combat Commander in 9mm as I haven't shot it much in the last 18 months

03) Wednesday; (weather permitting) 9 new loads of .44 mag to chrono

04) Thursday; (weather permitting) run 9 loads of .44 to determine group sizes at 25 & 50 yds.

05) Friday; clean up after previous 4 days.

Today I'm re-zeroing my Ruger PCC and shooting up my carry ammunition 9MM and .45 Golden Saber. This evening I'm taking the Dog for a long hike and remembering those lost.

Guys and I will probably be Tuesday thru Thursday fixing camera systems and fire alarms at the local municipal complex. County jail, sheriff dept, and court bldg all three took a major lightning hit Friday night. Got things partially up on Saturday, ordered some equipment as well on Saturday, and will get back on it tomorrow. Have to bump some other customers, but have to prioritize sometimes.

Wife had a bad weekend - we were at the ER until near 3am Sunday morning. Near debilitating pain caused by inflammation in one ankle; unsure if it was caused by a recent tick bite or just deterioration from two years of chemo treatments. Doing a little better today. I broke one of my own rules and brought her favorite kitten in the house and it seemed to do her more good than the hydrocodone pills they gave her.

Doing a deal on another 1000 rounds of M855 on stripper clips in NH around noon tomorrow. Working a shift in Massachusetts (978 area code) afterwards. Probably rise early and get in a four mile hill run, maybe some kettlebell work before I head out. Chilling with the roommate's cat (his ex girlfriend asked us to give her a berth,at least for the short term). Cat is an agreeable sort-16 years old, pretty chill. Name of Sadie. Sleeping on my arm as I type

Well like normal weather changes plans, spent the whole day today doing #3 & #4. Tomorrow will be a write off, Wednesday will be the Old retired guy shooting day where I'll dump a lot of excess .44 & 9mm downrange. Clean up Thursday and Friday pack for match on Saturday. Melvin, did you manage any range time this week?

Brass prep and reloading most if the week. .38spl, .30-'06, .223Rem and .300WinMag.

I need to track down a local source of CCI Quiet for shooting in my back yard.

The Ruger PC was not doing well as far as accuracy, Grouped high, left, and low right with Wolf FMJ. Also the P-Mags malfunctioned twice. Everything seemed tight. I'm going to try again with Glock magazines and Remington FMJ. The Ruger LCP II does not do well with the Hornady SD ammunition. I'm going to just carry FMJ in it. It's not a back up anymore since I got the Springfield Hellcat. CZ P-01, P-09, P97b and Glock 21 all performed perfectly as usual. Both TX22's worked without fail even with the Thunderbolt which some say are not good with semi-automatics. These little .22's are more accurate and reliable than I hoped for. I was going to buy a Glock 44, but gone in my area. Also, i received the latest Gun Test's which reviewed the .22LR in S&W, Ruger LCP, and Glock 44. The Glock came in last in reliability. It was pretty much damned with faint praise so I think I'll skip that one.

My old-version LCP actually likes the Hornady XTP's; they're what I carry in it largely due to the shootingthebull410 tests.

What test was that? Are your XTP's opening up sufficiently out of that short barrel? Frankly, I don't see the point of the LCP II any longer since I'v got and like the Hellcat.

ShootingTheBull410 is a Youtube channel. Several years ago he did what he called his "Ammo Quest" series, both for .380acp and 9mm in micro guns. He did gel testing, both bare and denim-covered, of probably a couple dozen popular 380 loads, and the three loads that used XTP bullets (Hornady, Fiocchi, and one other small boutique mfr) did the best of any of the 380 loads he tested.

Before those, I carried remington's 102-grain HP bullet in my LCP. I figured if it opened up, great, and if it didn't it would be basically like FMJ and at least I was shooting the biggest bullet the gun could launch. In his tests, it hugely underpenetrated; something like 7-8 inches or so iirc. They only ran something like 750 fps and while they did actually expand, they didn't penetrate enough for my comfort zone.

Thanks, John. I decided to try the Fiocchi brand in HP. Oddly enough the big box store has plenty of .380 in different brands. No caliber's above that though.

If you're going with Fiocchi for XTP reasons, just be aware that Fiocchi sells two different HP loads in .380; only one of which uses the XTP bullet.

Well another 6 stage match done and dusted. I decided that since this was just a fun match that I'd use my back up guns for a change. On the first stage I drew and brought the front sight up to the first target, then I realized the front sight somehow had gotten bent on my .45 Colt Ruger Vaquero. Finished the stage, a little slower than normal and then went back to the SUV to get another pair of pistols. The rest of the match was nothing to brag about, I screwed up a couple of stages with misses, but overall I managed 4 clean stages. On the positive side, I beat the wife in overall time by 34 seconds. This is good because during the last year she has either been nipping my heels on overall time or been a couple of seconds ahead of me.
