LEOSA Qualification cancelled

I just received word that LEOSA qualifications for the Spring have been cancelled. I got word from a friend who is the State Department of Criminal Investigations that the yearly qualifications are set for the Fall. In the interim all LEOSA cards will be honored regardless of qualification dates. The Fed's MIGHT issue a notice to all States to honor them. Not exactly comforting. I have no plans to travel out of state, but you never know.

I'm already registered for the Montana State SASS Championships in July, yesterday I got an email asking if I wanted to back out yet because the border is closed. Hope it is open by then.

My LEOSA requalification date is July. I figure that that's almost certainly far enough out to not be a problem, but being in such a rural area & knowing the sheriff personally as I do, I think I'll be all right. I hope to be doing some traveling relatively soon as we had a late-march cruise cancelled, but doubt that'll happen.

Although I don't begrudge those who take advantage of the LEOSA option, I am and remain strongly opposed to anyone's former or current employment somehow making their rights more inviolate than anyone else's.
In short,my life-or anyone's isn't less valuable than another's based on who signed their paycheck.

Agree completely. I think every american citizen should have (and constitutionally does have) the rights offered by LEOSA and even beyond, for that matter. I actually only found about about LEOSA after leaving law enforcement around a decade ago, and just pursued it last year.

It's not right that it doesn't apply to everyone, but at the same time I'll take any advantage I can get as long as it doesn't hurt anyone or take anything away from anyone else. Kind of like if they offered me a lifetime exemption on class-3 tax stamp costs, I wouldn't pass it up just because it isn't offered to everyone. Again, totally agree with you - I think everyone should have expanded carry rights. But me refusing it wouldn't help anyone else and me taking it doesn't hurt anyone else, so I accept it.

I'm very happy to be LEOSA qualified. However I don't think anyone in these United States should be prevented from carrying a firearm to defend themselves. I am still against felons and the mentally ill having guns. No one should have to carry a "Card" that say's you can be armed. With the exceptions I've stated it should be every Americans choice to go armed or not. LEO's and retired LEO's are targeted by criminals that are looking for payback for getting arrested and locked up. On two occasions years ago I was approached by released felons who let it be known that I may have forgotten them but they hadn't forgotten me. Just short of a threat in both cases. It made me realize I would be a fool not to carry.
