if not, why even DREAM of choosing a shotgun, hmm? Carry how many each of birdshot, buck and slug shells, when theyare 10 to the lb and very bulky? Why make noise when you dont have to? Why have all that flash at night? The entire idea of a "combat shotgiun" is ridiculous. It's just a waste of time and money. When you look at how little meat there is on small game and birds, vs how likely it is that the noise will call in your killers, it's just nuts to bother with a shotgun.. With a can on the AR, the .22 unit subsonic ammo, holding shut the 22 bolt, and careful shooting, you can down quite a few birds from a tree or on the ground, before the rest wise up and take flight. This is especially true with feeding ducks in the water. If you kill one cleanly, his floating body doesn't bother the others at all. This normally requires that you be on a hill above the water, shooting at their spine, as they face away from you. Remember that from the side, almost all you see is is feathers. Only a very little bit of flesh is above the water. So your elevation control has to be perfect for a side shot. or you have to aim at the head/neck. Firing from above/behind offers much better odds of settling his hash with little or no flopping around, cause you dont really need to allow for his swimming or for the current (inside 40m or so).

people just keep on trying to make a shotgun into a rifle, or vice-versa, or make the longarms into pistols, or vice versa. Why bother? Just learn to be an ace shottist, have a quiet, concealable option, and you'll harvest more game and be MUCH more capable of survival/fighting effectively. Nobody HAS to score all the time, when normal times hunting. if you're waf, you can take lots of small game and birds with a .22lr handgun, especially a suppressed variant. When there's nothing to make them flee, you'll get repeated shots at them. If you can group 2" at 25 yds, which anyone who's waf can do with a match .22lr autopistol, you'll take lots of rabbits, squirrels, grouse, waterfowl. Hell, anyone can hit them with a shotgun. Where's the challenge in doing that? Now, with a silenced M21 beretta, 9" OAL, 15 ozs, taking even starlings is a challenge that separates the sheep from the goats.

And what caused all this babbling about shotguns? I'm trying to understand your point but you have made it difficult.

I suspect I gored his sacred cow in the "shotgun re-tasking" thread, and it's easier to post random pontifications than engage in actual discussion.

Topic "A" again, although now we're including shotguns in with .308's as "ridiculous" and useless.

Hey, if that is all you have at the moment you require it, it is no longer irrelevant.
