Prayers sent your way Terry. Watching the news lately, I wouldn't want to be in the path of that storm

Bought a bunch of 22lr shells. Don’t know if the las vegas shooting will cause market stupidity the way newtown did, but since it’s the one caliber I can’t reload I decided to get some extras put back while supply is good and prices are still low.

You can never have too much, but I don't see ammunition panic buying. AR's, probably, and those bump stocks are jumping off the shelves. I always thought they were gimmicky ammo waster's but to each his own. They will probably be banned. The politician's have to do SOMETHING. As far as the concert, it's just terrible. Your really not safe anywhere anymore. Yeah, it was gun's, but any crowd now is a target of bomb's, truck's, or whatever. We had a rash of mugger's threatening people with syringes that they said were filled with AID's blood.

Belt loops; the original "bump stock". Nothing a SlideFire can do that the belt loop on my carhartt's doesn't, but you can't appease sheep by banning belt loops.

On the "not safe anywhere" thing, that's about true. Not much you can do to protect yourself in that kind of attack, other than 'not be there'. I'm usually a fan of avoiding large groups of people, but most people aren't.

As far as choice of weapons, one of the things I dread is the day that some whacknut remembers junior-high science class and does a $20 FAE from a propane tank or gas can.

I've been backing up my reloading supplies of powder and primers in the last 6 months. I like to ensure that I have enough stock for the wife and myself to shoot for at least 2 competition seasons. This last shortage was the 3rd period of shortages we have had up here since the early '90's.

Tested some soft armor a couple days ago, and a couple hard armor rifle plates yesterday. More progress on the house build as well.

There is a "3 gun nation" style match in town tomorrow, really don't feel like picking up brass so I slipped my .22 conversion kits into my AR & Series '70. They expect it to get down to about 35F also, not as much fun as it used to be at that temperature anymore.

Put 2 firearms on lay away in the same week at the same shop.

First was a Remington 870 Express Super Magnum 12ga 3-1/2" that will be the basis for a general purpose hunting and home defense gun.

Second was a pretty darn clean stainless steel Ruger MkII Target 6-3/4". Which was as close as I've been able to come to the one I owned years ago.

This made my Week

I shot a Ringneck Rooster, saw it hit, then got distracted and didn't see where it fell. Thought I lost it for sure. Then....

Had the state police send me a copy of my LE file, to get things in motion on LEOSA paperwork. Next thing is to get with the local police chief or sheriff for annual pistol qualification. I've never bothered with the LEOSA thing, but figured it can't hurt to have the pieces in place.

Now if the state police would release the program qualifications for the new 'enhanced' chl requirements, that would be awful nice as well. Weird but true that the new enhanced arkansas chl law legalizes carry in places that even LEOSA doesn't.

I have been carrying under LEOSA since it became law. I have a state CCW license also. For $40.00 for five years it can't hurt. The LEOSA credential's also saved me from a speeding ticket which I deserved. You have to post what your LESB qualification is. I'm curious to see if it varies from state to state.

Just spent a week on the left coast of Canada with my grandkids, had a great time. By the time I flew home the whole province has been covered by a large amount of white stuff. I guess next week if I want to shoot it will be in an overpriced indoor range.

Terry- the leosa thing is new to me. When it says you have to be carrying a dept-issued ID, does it mean an old ID (which I have), or one from the dept you currently did the annual pistol qualification with?

John, you need an ID from your last agency, either current or retired. Then you need a certificate of firing qualification on an LESB approved course. Your state should have the requirement's for the application on line. For example, I have a form from my agency attesting to the fact I served 23 years as a Federal LEO. The state has a form that you fill out stating you can own a firearm, blah, blah, blah, much like the form you fill out to buy a gun. Then you fill out the LEOSA application and send them with your firearm certification and a Passport photo of yourself and whatever fee they charge. Like I said, your state has all this on line information on how to proceed. I hope I'm not making this sound difficult, because it isn't. If you have any other question's I'll be happy to help.

Thing is, I’m neither current nor retired; just ‘former’, but with the necessary >10-year aggregate service time. (In my case, between two departments)

So while I’m on good terms with mgmt at both depts, they can’t issue a current or retired ID.

Of course I'm not familiar with your State's LEOSA qualification system, but as I understand it, your ten year's of law enforcement service qualifies you in the Federal eye's. I would think a letterhead statement from both your agencies or a duplicate signed form provided by your State DOJ would be sufficient. The form I had filled out just states the date's of service and a signing officials name. No reason you couldn't provide two of them to show your ten years as a LEO. You would need an Law Enforcement ID of some sort to go along with your picture ID of firearm qualification. I would think your last agency would provide you with it. It could still be marked RETIRED.

I have the documentation no problem. Letter from a sgt at one dept (an SO), and the state police forms from the second (a PD). The PD never sent in my form-1 (hire form) or form-4 (termination form) to the state police, and I just recently had the new chief fill them out; and instead of bothering to send them in, he just gave them to me to send in. I checked with the state police records division, and they said it was all right to just scan them in and email them, so I've actually still got the originals. (I got lucky that the new chief is a guy that I worked with back then and was very easy to work with. For whatever reason, the old chief sent in forms on me several times, for training, qualifications & such, but never sent the forms showing me actually starting there or leaving.

Anyway, I also have a printout summary of my state police file that I requested back after they got those final PD forms, and it shows the dates (along with training info & such). So documenting the >10 years isn't a problem, I just wondered about the wallet ID card.

I do have some of the old ID's from both depts, which may suffice fine; just haven't checked into it yet. Been stupid busy with work, house-build stuff, and family stuff. We went to Houston over this past weekend for a nephew's wedding on Sunday, and my wife was having such a good time dancing at the reception that we didn't leave until 9:30 or so. Meaning we didn't get back until around 6:30 monday morning; so straight to work that day after driving all night. Only worked to 2:30 or so that day, and was in bed at 6:30 or so. I'm a party animal, all right...

I'll get it squared away with the state police or whatever fed agency administers LEOSA; just haven't pursued it very intently yet. Too much real life going on, and it's frankly less of a priority for me than even the upcoming 'enhanced' carry permit that arkansas has in the works, as the new ehcl includes college campuses (which LEOSA doesn't) and churches (not sure if LEOSA does).
