I remember an evidence class I took long ago. It had pictures of evidence used in actual trials. One was a Chrome played .45 1911 with black plastic grips. On the grips were a Skull and Crossbones with the legend "Born to Kill" on it. Imagine showing up in court with that.
Hey,I just carry " unadorned Comblocs" because they're what I have...although, if I WAS to adorn a sidearm, it'd probably be a Smiley Face over Crossed Bones...what can I say? I kind of liked " The Comedian " in the movie " Watchmen"
heavy bullet 9mm and factory .38 specials are jokes. The pocket 9x21 beats them all to hell. they wont even expand the jhp in critters. The needed velocity just aint there.
Seems Law enforcement did ok with 38 or 357 for a long time till that 9mm was forced on them.Look at that model 28 Smith, BIG, HEAVY, good to hit perps on head with if needed.
and how many cops carried one? My buddy, slim, HATED that sob. Cause he actually had to carry one. He'd had to give up the LWC .45 that I smithed for him, and had carried a gold cup until I worked over the Commander. He also hated the 6 rd limitation and the slow reload. Most cops back then, given the choice, would have picked a 2" or 4" M12. Hitting people on the head with a revolver is a good way to have a murder case instead of subdued drunk. and it's also a good way to have a bent cylinder crane.
I once had to repair a M66 that a cop had lost from his holster in a foot chase. Hit so hard that the pin holding the barrel had bent and barrel had rotated. I had to hollow out a couple of boards to support the frame in the vice, and 2 more to grip the barrel (double sided carpet tape, wax the barrel first) to straighten it out. Had a horrible ding on the muzzle. Used a deburrind drill bit and the dremel to polish it out. Charged the cop $28, when it had taken 4-5 hours. 1981 He was expecting $100 and dreading it. I made a lot of points in that town with that one!
