Garand Clips

The dump manager, sorry. the Waste Transfer Site Manager, gave me a bag of fairly rusty M-1 Garand clips. Any suggestions on a solution to remove rust? I've cleaned some by hand but it's pretty time consuming. Thanks for any suggestions.

If you reload, you might try running them thru your brass tumbler..? The big thing nowadays seems to be stainless steel pins as tumbling media - I don’t use it but I might give it a try for this. If you have an ultrasonic cleaner, that might be a good option as well.

(If you don’t have an ultrasonic cleaner, the Harbor Freight $79 unit does a surprisingly good job if you can come up with an appropriate cleaning solution.)

Thanks John. I think I'll just clean the least rusted by hand and spray with a clear enamel. It's not like I'm going to run out.

Electrolysis works well, but it's a PITA with things like Garand clips. Evapo-rust works REALLY well too though Dump the clips in a bucket, cover with EvapoRust, leave for a day or so, then pull them out, rinse and brush them and they'll be fine, then you can paint or just clear coat them, whichever you prefer

I don't know if they still sell Navel Jelly in the original formula. That and coarse steel wool works wonders.

Personally if I had them I'd sandblast and parkerize them. But I got the set up for that.

I did the Evaporust. Worked like a charm. Wait a minute, $22.00 to save 26 clips? I probably could have bought them cheaper. Then $6 for spray paint. I'm a real genius.
