I saw 2 dogs hit with 50 gr SX 222 sp

it's intended to blow up in crows, so the penetration was just an inch or so deep. Mine dropped, hit in the throat from the front. Bill's, hit in the side, created just a "crater" wound, about 1" wide, ran for miles. He pursued with a jeep, shot it in the temple as it lay in a creek, soaking its wound. You definitely do not want to use 40-45, 50, 52 gr sp or hp's in a 223 for body shots deer, coyotes or defense.

Even some of the 55 gr sp's and hp's are not sufficiently penetrative, and they'll blood-shoot almost all of the meat on a rabbit. I"m not kidding. On a rabbit shot with such loads, you'll see more guts than hide. The hide is mostly turned inside-out on what meat is left. So you definitely want either the .22lr conversion unit for your silenced rifle, or a silenced, accurate .22 handgun for foraging small game, dogs, cats, small livestock if shtf.

other than maybe a 9mm carbine, centerfires are wasted on small game, livestock, dogs, cats and the like. The subsonic 60 gr Aquila .22 rimfire load, from a rifle barrel, while not a lot, does suffice for such stuff, and for braining men and deer to 50 yds or so. It starts with the same 120 ft lbs as a normal .22lr from a rifle, which has proven to be able to do the job for a century or more. The normal ammo, from a .22 rifle barrel, tho, has "sonic crack' thru a silencer, cause it's starting at 1250 fps. the Aquila subsonic 60 gr ammo leaves the muzzle at 950 fps, so there' no sonic crack with this fodder. Fired thru a good 223 silencer, this 22 ammo sounds like a BB gun.

I tend to ignore any posts from him involving dogs....on one hand, it'd be good for him to get his $hit together ( one way or another). OTOH, almost every time I see a post from him involving dogs,it tends to anger me. And frankly, I don't actually LIKE anger without direction or an actual focus beyond Internet postings. Bad karma, and I'd rather chill out with my Father's dog.

lots of dogs need to be shot, just like people. nothing special about em. same as any other critter, possum, coon, etc. If they are causing problems, they should get removed. Life is too short to put up with any bs.
