There was talk about making silencers legal in IL last year, don't know what ever came of it. State moves kinda slow.

they are coming off of the NFA list pretty soon. Ruger is making them, a sure sign that they will be going mainstream. Wifey's going to have her Title II license in 2020

Just how often do you get to shoot at a range that exceeds 500 yards/meters these days. My home range has a 300 meter limit, 600 meter range is 2 hour drive away and a 1000 meter range is over 5-7 hours away. Most of us just maximize the opportunities that we personally have rather than fantasize about what other do.

I never get to shoot that far; pretty much never shooting farther than 230 yards, and even that is rare. I've shot my 10FP-LE a couple times at 440 yards simply to show to the kids that yes, with a $379 rifle you can pop a cantaloupe at a quarter-mile. A cantaloupe being roughly an 8-9" target, reliable 440 yard hits on it means the gun & ammo are capable of doing 20" or so at a thousand.

Now, whether I am capable of it is likely another story. I've never shot that far, have no intention of shooting that far, and will likely never have the opportunity to shoot that far. But the gun is capable of it.

Also, looking at the opening notes on that video of how that gun is set up, it's thousands of dollars I suspect. I don't have any guns that cost anywhere near that.

regardless of gun, ammo or shooter, it requires fair weather, no wind or mirage and a target that holds still for spotter shots. :-) it's bogus, just showing that the AR or 223 is NOT limiting anyone when it comes to realistic sniping. The gun and the caliber have PLENTY more effective range than normal firing conditions permit any shooter to demo, with any gun or load. fluke happenings (normally after MANY misses, unrepeatable) don't establish anything except the would-be deception of the punk making claims of "abiity" to do such and such.

Melvin, it would take a skilled marksman, and we all know marksmanship is a perishable skill. You were the one dumb enough to go to jail.

Now I'm lost. I thought the point of posting the video was to show how capable an AR could be; not that it was a fluke...

I'm lost too. I thought it was to show the long range capability of the AR/.223. ( Although way too heavy for normal use.) Now the hitting ability is just luck at that range? What "punk" is claiming what?
