The thought and preparation that goes into each BP shot fired teaches the shooter in the same way that reloading does. The longer lock times of BP guns also teaches you good shooting stances and habits.

SLOWFIRE, maybe and that's pointless. Actually, black powder HURTS your effective shooting. It wastes a LOT of range time that's better spent on realistic shooting. But when you dont even KNOW what realistic shooting IS, you can KID yourself about such things. |

Oh yeah with those long lock times, if you have a flinch (like someone here does), you won't be able to hit a lake standing on the bottom. You make a good point, with all the prep time it takes per shot, BP shooters tend to make every shot count. Hunting with one is an experience, you'd better make the shot count, because unless you carry two loaded rifles, at the post you'll have a BP pistol as a follow up to your one shot. I've notice most BP afficianatos (sp?) tend to make a good hit with the first shot, whether shooting a repeater or their BP frontstuffer. Just a habit you get into when you've only got one shot. Kind of like the old school way of teaching children to hunt. Give them one .22 shell (later one shotshell) and they have to: 1.) make that shot count 2.) control themselves, as they have to walk all the way back to dad to get another round.

Blackpowder teaches discipline and close attention to good basic shooting skills. These are qualities that gunkid does not possess and never will. I think that it would be fun to attend the Buckskinning Rezendevous that they have each year. RIKA |

Andy- you know as much about firearms and shooting as, to quote George Patton- "As a Pope knows about fornicating"- and I am a Catholic- Thanks to our First Amendment, you and every "swingin' Dick" has the right to post here-Hey, I just figured you out- you are the TV idiot Andy Dick-when you are not showing up dumb and drunk for auditions, you sit down at your laptop in a StaBucks and pretend to be:Elmer Keith, Jeff Cooper, Jack O'Connor-etc-- I actually get a chuckle out of your numb-nutted posts here- if B.S. were concrete and ashphalt, you would be Route 66-

Any good information he has unfortunately gets lost in all the bandwidth he wastes with ignorance and fantasy. And, he does, on occasion have some good information. He also tends to mis-apply it causing the good to be thrown out with the dumb.

I've shot BP for many years, attended a number of buckskining rondezvous, and have a BP rifle and pistol trail at my ranch. I shoot percussion but have only fired flinters a few times. I state unequivically that the BP discipline WILL make anyone who practices it a better shot in ALL shooting disciplines. BP teaches; stealth, certainty of target, trigger control, and perhaps most important humility, a virtue that Child might strive toward. Respectfully.---OS
