Head Scratcher 5 Attachment(s) A Friend inherited this obviously redone military action placed in a Monte Carlo stock. I can't place it, but I'd guess Mauser. That loop safety has me stumped. The internal magazine takes .30/06, and it chamber it also. However, the old bullet in the muzzle accepts it to the case mouth. 8MM? Anyway, if someone can ID it, I would be grateful. |
Wonder if slugging the barrel would help. Maybe give a starting point, based not only on caliber, but also on number & type of lands and grooves..? |
Doesn't look familiar. |
Safety is a add on, seen them before on Mauser actions. Can't remember the company that made them. |
The Safety is NOT original. I finally narrowed it down to a Mauser 98k sniper rifle. The barrel, bolt, magazine, and floor plate match in color. I'm certainly no expert, but I would think the whole system was installed in the stock and new sights added. NOTE: Big Bass Man your correct. On closer inspection, (in sunlight) the color is different on the safety. Standard Mauser converted to Wisconsin Deer rifle. I need to verify caliber. By the condition of the bore, I'd say original, The rifling looks raised, not grooved, and light pitting. Corrosive Ammunition? I have a Ton and a Half of surplus 7.92MM, but I would hate to wreck the rifle (or me) trying it. |
Slug the bore an make a chamber cast. Sights might be Lyman, Redfield, or Williams, can't remember but seen them on lots of rifles. |
The bore is 8MM, but will not take the 8X57 round. 8MM/06 is what I can figure out. |
Slug the bore an make a chamber cast. Sights might be Lyman, Redfield, or Williams, can't remember but seen them on lots of rifles.
this moron couldn't cast a bullet, much less a chamber-replica. |
BTW, Learned your other nickname the other day. IGMO ! * Rodger wanted to know if you have thrown any more fully assembled No1 s in the bluing tanks lately. * Ignorant Moron |
Actually it turned out to be the standard German Army 7.92MM. It has to be fed from the magazine, I didn't know that. It shot very well. I sold it about three minute's after I listed it for $850.00. Too cheap from the responses I got. Oh, well. Friend was happy. I took no commission. I partnered with this guy for 14 years. |

But wait. This is the same guy who you used to claim was your cohort in smuggling. He's too dumb to cast a bullet, but you claim that you and he used to do illegal class-3 stuff together..? That's awesome in itself and says several gloriously stupid things about you, actually... Or is it that you meant to say that Terry is too dumb to cast a bullet, but you simply don't possess the 2nd-grade language skills to communicate even that simple thought? If so, that also says some things. Things that are probably 20% funny and 80% sad, actually. What a sad yappy, chained-up internet chihuahua you are. |
no, dip****, when nobody is named the proper assumption is that any comment is about the op |

By your stated logic, I'm talking to TerryG now. Got it... John, I've told you a hundred times. If you're going to get into verbal exchanges, you really should try to make them non-argumentative. After all these years of drug dependence, you simply don't have the mental tools to win an argument anymore. Maybe if you got off the drugs, you would. But in your current state, not happening; sorry. |
