The Medium Bores
I don't really consider the .270, .30/06, .308 and 7MM Magnum as "Big Bores." While all will take Whitetail and Black Bear, Game such as Elk, Moose, and the larger Bears require the larger calibers. I would think the .300 Winchester Magnum, .338 Magnum and upwards are more in line with "Big Bores". A friend of mine who hunt's Alaska yearly for Elk and Caribou swears by the .338, although guides generally use .444 Marlin and .45/70.

I know what you mean but after you've shot a .50BMG rifle most anything else is "small bore" in comparison.

Although I admit a light weight sporter in abouyt any magnum round has decen oomp on either end.

I think for a time back 10-16 years ago SAKO/TIKKA offered one standard model in .338Lapua. Bet that was a handful.

there's people who will beat on you for free. So why pay lots of money to do it to yourself?
