silenced .22lr rifle, can shoot>5 birds a day

long term, without having to move much at all. Mix in some trapped stuff, gillnets and trotlines, bird lime on roosts, and the half of the diet being plant food (necessary for health, long term) and you'll be ok. fire half a dozen 12 ga shells a day and you'll soon have none and have called in your killers, too, without having jack squat to fight with.

how many each to carry, slugs, buck, birdshot? if you just use #2 birdshot, skipping the number 6 and the buck, and aim at men's heads/necks, you MIGHT be able to have as many as 50 rds of slugs with you. But since you CLAIM that you "gotta" carry 200 or more rds of rifle ammo, 50 slugs won't even get you started. The rifle can be silenced, the shotgun cannot. You can practice with the .22 unit for 1/10th the cost of 12 ga slugs. Since you're too cheap to even do the 22 practice, you won't amount to a hill of beans in a fight vs riflemen (using your 12 ga slugs.)

7 lbs of shotgun and 200 (20 lbs) of shells, or 4 lbs of AR, 1 lb of scope, 3/4 lb of silencer, 3/4 lb of .22 unit, 100 rds of 60 gr subsonic .22lr, (1 lb) and 100 rds of 223, (in mags) 3.5 lbs. total is 11 lbs. Gee, how much more 223 and 22 ammo could you carry with that saved 16 lb difference? How much water and food, nvd's or armor, hmm?

If you know enough to not come out during daylight hours, how many people will just never detect you (ie, 10x or more less risk of getting shot) or having to burn up a lot of ammo. Many animals are far easier to detect/shoot at night, ya know.

Without all the noise, you wont scare off game nor call to your killers. So you dont need nearly as much ammo, so you save about 10 lbs, and you'll easily have 3x the effective range. You won't have flash at night. You won't be flinching from your own blasts, and enemy fire won't be nearly as well-aimed. So you'lld have to duck less, meaning you'll hit more. naturally as you hit more and confuse the enemy more, you'll be far more likely to run them off. With the subsonic .22 option, you'll be free to sneak up on enemies, brain 1=2 of them (or their guard dogs) and slip away, un-detected.

I dont care what a half dozen, punks (who can't learn) "think" should be posted here. There's other readers, who MIGHT be capable of learning something. The gun industry and it's brainwashed victims want YOU to waste your time and money on "sport only" guns, too. I want you to maximize your fighting ability, and otherwise save your money. Instead of plinking away several k $ per year, save it, buy nvd goggles and a silencer. You'll be way ahead.

Most "training" is bs, btw. it's done too slowly, at too great distances. If you "need" to use a handgun beyond 5 yds, you're a fool who should have been carrying a fighting rifle. Ditto if you need speed work with a rifle beyond 100m. Your enemies will be using cover and you'll be missing ( a LOT). Precision stuff, at longer ranges, is a crap shoot (due to target movement, mirage, dust, smoke, precipitation, cold, illness) that requires very little practice. It's impractical as hell beyond about 1/4 mile. you're just too likely to miss, or be presented only with targets that you KNOW you'll (mostly) miss, or they're armored, etc, rendering your "long-range" gear essentially worthless.

yes, you can have a silenced /22r handgun to go with your super dooper 300 mag. a 308 just doesn't have enough more (practical) long range ability than the 223 to be worth lugging around the .30 ammo.

If you dont like reading about silenced, shorty AR's, then dont do so. It's really a very simple concept. Nobody is twisting your arm. You read my stuff cause you know damned well that I have tremendous depth and breadth of info, experience and inspired insights about guns and shtf tactics. IF that knowledge irks you, it's a sign of your ineptitude.

Part of my issue with the whole scenario is the scenario itself – the premise that we must live as lone wolves in the woods. It's happened in small, localized instances in history, but the premise that it MUST happen carries the assertion that nothing else CAN happen; and that's quite a claim to make.

As for the silenced, subsonic .22, I’m a fan and have three guns that do that very thing (suppressed CAR-15 with ciener kit, bolt-action .22 rifle with thread-on suppressor, and Norrell Ruger .22 suppressed pistol); but being able to sneak up on dogs undetected simply isn’t in my playbook. At least close enough to guarantee a brain hit; and if I don’t get a brain hit, then the ‘undetected’ thing is gone at that point anyway.

A – why the hostility? No need for insults; if your premise has merit, let it stand on its own.
B – as for being ‘capable of learning something’, you do realize that that concept means being willing to adapt & adopt the lessons learned, which means change; and change is something you’ve never really demonstrated a willingness to do. In fact, you’ve repeatedly stated that your current rifle choice the best one for everybody, has BEEN the best choice for everybody since the previous century, and also said that it always WILL BE the best choice, regardless of advances & progress. Hardly demonstrative of a willingness to learn, or an acceptance of change which true learning requires.

I’m not above admitting that a fair number of my choices are different now than they were a decade, two decades, and four decades ago; that’s because learning means growth, and growth means change.

All those people killed in church shootings, movie-theater shootings, etc, were fools for not having brought a rifle with them to the movies or church? Because historically speaking, a lot of those were beyond 15 feet.

I do like reading about AR’s, discussing them, and even shooting them. You really believe that everyone who reads your stuff does it because of reverence we have for your 'tremendous' insight? I don’t believe that about the stuff I post; only ungrounded narcissists truly believe that of themselves. Nobody knows everything about any subject. That included Einstein, Maxwell, Newton and Rand; and it certainly includes me & you both.

To strengthen credibility, why not offer some evidence of ability? Takes nothing but a camera (which most people have on their phone already, and so costs nothing), a photobucket or similar online account (which costs nothing), and online access (which you demonstrably have). Whether martial arts stuff, airsoft drills, whatever - it would be nice to have an actual, objective frame of reference to go by, rather than just words typed on a keyboard.

Melvin, your not teaching anyone, anything! You are just repeatedly repeating your favorite end of the world fantasy, try and look beyond that for a change. You have no teaching credentials, your military experience is limited, you haven't legally competed in a match in over 35 years and your limited to airsoft. Those are not the credentials of a qualified teacher.

It's the total hypocrisy that get's me. Your foolish to practice at more than five yards with a handgun, but ol' Melvin brags about shooting bottles at 100 yards with a .22 pistol, bobbing in a lake, no less. A .22 is useless, only good as a threat, but unless your weapon of choice has a .22 unit, it's no good. Your foolish to waste money, but too cheap. Who "you" is, is never stated. A 10 inch AR-15 is the answer to everything, bit he doesn't own one, and never can. Also, he is the absolute king of BS'ers. All this shooting, survival talk, gear he's made, not one picture or proof of anything. Melvin is the ultimate keyboard commando.

I'd actually welcome discussion & even debate, rather than just the one-off, drive-by postings.

Agreed, but every third post that Melvin comes up with involves his fantasy. He is incapable about thinking outside the box. Melvin looks what's happening in Louisiana right this moment, that is "SHTF", wanna talk about it?

I know. Wishing for different doesn't mean I actually expect different. Standard, drive-by thread, this time made up of topics 'A' (12-gauge instead of .308, but same sermon), 'C', and 'J' combined; with no follow-up and no response to questions asked.

I think it's getting worse. Used to be, we had the equivalent of an angry kid riding in the back of the bus yelling at everyone thru the whole trip. Now we've got the angry kid who jumps on the bus when it stops, yells at everyone for five seconds, and then jumps back off, claiming victory in the conversation and praising his own prowess and insight. Saddest part is that a conversation never actually occurred...
