GPS

Do you use one? If so what brand and model? I use the Garmin etrex20 for my local hikes, and also for Canada. I have an older Eagle 12 channel model that takes longer to acquire satellites, but also handles cloudy and stormy weather better as far as temporarily losing the signal.

I haven't used a GPS since I retired, but then I no longer need to mark the grid reference of unexploded ordnance. I still carry the old standby map and compass.

I use a Garmin in the vehicle all the time; don't recall the model. I tend to be in a lot of places that are off the beaten path and to which I've never been before. Homes under construction, etc. GPS and mapquest are the only way I find my way to some of them.

useful for caching, as long as all record of of the location (in the GPS) is thoroughly erased, the numbers thereof are converted into a one-time code, and also a written record (similarly encoded) is also stashed someplace.

Prefer Garmin..

A few years ago, I did a side-by-side search comparison between Garmin and TomTom navigation units, and found that Garmin was quicker and seemed to be more accurate.. That comparison could have been a fluke, but since then I have been satisfied with the Garmin units in my three vehicles..

knew a gal once, her kid had a pet rabbit, got out and chewed insulation off of a power cord, set the house on fire.

Got tired listening to someone arguing with Sgt Ermie (GPS) so I added a paper map to the co-pilot's position..
