1970, age 18. 4x Weaver . rough-triggered M788 remington. Kid stuff to deliver far, far more accuracy than you'll ever need as a civilian. Wind, precipitation, smoke, dust, mirage and target movement, no spotter shots, mean that hitting a man beyond 500 yds is a crap shoot, from field positions. So the difference between a .5 MOA and a 1.5 MOA rifle are never going to matter any.

Do you get 1 MOA with your BB gun?

I owned a Remington M788 in .308 w/ a 22" barrel, trigger was nice and crisp. I put a Bushnell Banner 4x scope with BDC on it. Used Remington 150 grain Core Lokts with it. It was my bragging rifle as I took a 6 pointer muley down at 450 yards with a 1 shot in October in '85 . It was a heart shot. Back in those days though I was shooting at least 500+ rounds a year in long range matches from 300-500 yds. Unfortunately throughout most of my shooting career I have had little opportunity to go past 500 yds very often.

I kicked myself for a long time after I passed up a 788 one time. It was in .308 at a yard sale for $275. Sometime around 1991-1993, don't recall exactly when but shortly before we left Houston. I wasn't familiar with the model since I'm not really a bolt-action guy, and so passed on it.

Many times since, I've thought that would have made a neat one to turn into a scout setup.

I had a friend who liked mine so much he went out and bought one, but with an 18 1/2" barrel, it had wicked recoil. Apparently that extra 3 1/2" of barrel really tamed it.
