ur several x more likely to need black belt

than pistol, and many, many times more likely to profit from pistol skill than rifle skill. can you jump up, punch a 12" long pine 2 x12 that is hanging on a string, and break it (with the grain) while you are "hanging" in the air? If not, you don't have much of a punch, and you should work on it. Sparring, I've stunned men with little love taps of backfist to temple or knife hand to the side of neck. With full power hits, they'd drop dead. In actual fights, the only time I hit a man with my hand (as vs my feet) a backfist broke his nose and ended the fight in 1/4 second. :-) Kicks to knees/nuts often make the guys run like hell, even when you miss. They can TELL what's going to happen if they don't flee, and what they DIDNT know is that I was going to break their collar bones AND their jaws after I got them down. I always looked it like this, one of us was leaving that prison yard and not coming back, and it was not going to be ME.

I agree that working on one's skills, physical conditioning and awareness is ALWAYS beneficial. I also agree that just because I had the means to end an engagement with gunfire, it was often more appropriate-and better for me-to have ended it with body shots and bootheels for the appropriate " sidewalk counseling "... Had the added benefit of being" lower signature " as far as triggering a response from other " interested parties ".
No longer consider myself a martial artist, or a ringmonster...just an older guy who plans on growing older still.

in a rainstorm, 1978, I slid on a coating of water for well over 100 yds, and hit a guy in the azz at about 40 mph. Spat out pcs of dentures, had a cracked jaw, ran up to see how the other guys were. The car I hit was knocked across the intersection and tagged the azz end of a car going thru at 90 degrees. both were unharmed. I broke the windshield with my head after going thru the steering wheel with my teeth. :-) I missed the chance to retire on a lawsuit about the county letting the sod get so high that water could not drain from that road. such accidents had happened there BEFORE. NO airbags or seatbelt.

a few years ago, an illegal ran a red light and tagged the right front corner of my van. totaled both cars. I had a cut on my forehead (no airbags or seatbelt). Jumped out to check on the other driver. I can still take a helluva hit, apparently.

After 60, I stopped planning on duking it out with someone I may have a serious problem with. Conflict avoidance, awareness of surroundings, pepper spray and 9MM are much better.

This incident could explain so much.
