for several years, averaged 3k per year

on long distance calls, to Hack, bob arganbright, Mike Harries, Ron Bright, Danny and Eileen Hartman ($4 a minute, back then, to talk to Rhodesia) Bill Wilson, Mike Dalton, Mas Ayoob, 40 or so letters from Cooper, I had an very unusual chance to talk to the top hands, at length, about stuff that never comes up anymore, cause guys dont know enough to ASK. :-) For three years, I averaged 40 matches per year. I'd shoot at litchfield, with Heinie in Havana, ILL, with Raul W in Columbia MO, with the group in quad cities, ILL, sometimes in St Louis, with Ray Chapman. 3 US nat'ls, 2 world shoots and the columbia Conference, I took a gal to shoot the US natl's up at the quad cities, but had had limited $ with which to practice, so did not compete in that one. You can meet a lot of people and learn a lot at 4-7day matches. Shot a few local matches in S. africa, lots of actual combat experience was on tap there!

one guy had shot a black in the back of the head, cause, drunk, he'd scatched the paint on the guy's car. Once the guy tried to flee the scene, he became dog meat. Raul W offered to take me on a "hunt" of the dark kind, in Rhodesia, but my return flight was too near in time.

I thought it very revealing that Raul hated CCW matches. He told me so, and I responded "it's the only way you can actually HAVE one when you need it", and he looked at me like I had horns. He set me up to get busted by the cops in Golden CO, for CCW at the match hotel, but Bill W warned me about Raul and Jeff had cleared it with management to let us ccw at the hotel. When Raul saw me show up at the Rhodesia World shoot, his jaw dropped and he stood pointing at me, speechless. :-) his partner in crime, lawyer Dick T. It is one of my most precious memories. Raul beat me at a sectional in quad cities, only by a few points, cause I hit a hostage. :-) I beat him 7 out of nine times that I met him on his home range, the year that he was the high .45 guy at the world shoot. the 9mm Brownings had about a 300 point advantage that year, out of 2000 possible points. So Raul probably was the actual winner.

Shhh...

I'd genuinely enjoy seeing something (regardless of how phenomenal or remedial) from more recently than that. If not from this week, that's ok; how about just something from this year?

If there's nothing from this year, ok; how about something from this decade?

If there's nothing from this decade, well good grief; how about something - anything - from this century..?

Seriously John... after hundreds of these stories of how important you used to be, it eventually ends up sounding like Al Bundy blogging about his high-school football prowess or something.

Shooting someone in the back of the head over a scratch in a car? That is combat experience? Sounds a little like murder.

You misunderstand. He didn't shoot "a man"; he shot "a black". To insane people and scumbags, there's a difference.

I'm actually curious what specifically is meant by a "hunt of the dark kind"...

I always get a kick out of JMD throwing around these big name shooter's from the '70's. Why would any of these people have associated with an unknown in the shooting competition world? No proof of anything, of course. Forty letter's from "Cooper", yeah right. I supposed they got lost when you got locked up?

Melvin himself said on here that Cooper told him he was not quite plumb.

I've got no problems believing that JMD met those people. Sad part is, they (even the ones who I never liked, like Cooper) went on to at least have a life, and he largely missed out on that simply due to anger and lack of self-control.

Melvin, you haven't posted anything relevant since 1998, that I know of. You just a wannabe, jealous of the rest of us who have been able to purchase or experience the items that you will never be able to.

Wouldn't it be more helpful if you'd share "the reason" now so that your posts could be put in proper context..?
