In the spirit of "stupid gun things"

From an email I received today...

.38 special, 158 grain, +P, full metal jacket ammunition...

http://www.munireusa.com/38-special-...zer-50-rounds/

Who could want this stuff? Is there some application that eludes me? Because I can't think of anything at all.

I can't think of why. It's not even that cheap. It would be allowed by the Geneva Convention in case you decided to bring a .38 Special to your next war.

For Bullseye or Pin game purposes, loads tangibly under 850fps would be a full inch or more off of standard sight calibration according to my ballistics calculator.

Given that it's CCI Blazer, they may also be trying to emulate the feel of the +P self defense loads, which is far more important.

Outside of simulating recoil, only viable for close targets, that's a really crappy load though.

Wouldn't want to get tagged by it or its equivalent JHP (or better, as it's probably best suited for cheap practice correlating to a light and fast .38 or typical .357 self defense load), but it's basically min-maxed in the worst way as far as performance is concerned (further establishing that it has to be a training round, if the Blazer brand wasn't enough).

We all generally prefer a JHP/JSP/HCSWCHP,but truth is, if all I had was a plain vanilla Model 10 or Security Six(or other well made revolver) and a few boxes of that stuff;I figure it'd work as long as I did my part... Besides, I actually like that weight in .38Special/.357Mag...I know-I am a Neanderthal.

I don't disagree at all; I like 158's in .357 for a lot of things. I just don't know what a .38spl +P FMJ load would do better than a .38spl non-plus-p FMJ load. Other than defense against chevy Vega engine blocks or something (sarcasm, btw) it's just a weird load. For that matter, what would it do better than a round-nose lead load, either; whether +P or not...

I remember the first time I encountered factory fmj-fp loads in .454 casull; only thing I could think of was if someone lived where expanding bullets were illegal, then an fmj-fp might make sense for a high-pressure load like that.

But in .38 spl, even a non-plus-p fmj is likely to over-penetrate; so I just can't figure out "where" this load makes sense in any application. That said, a lot of things in modern America don't make sense to me, so there's nothing really new here I guess.

I forgot about the FMJ-FP option....I was thinking maybe " New Jersey" with their HP ban,but the soft point would (probably) be as OK as anything would be there...I'm spacing on this-are there ANY jurisdictions in America where ANY expanding (not just HP)is banned?
