CCI MiniMags Discontinued

I received an e-mail from Sportsman's Guide that my back order for CCI Mini-Mags and .22 Blazer, both 40 Grain, have been cancelled as the maker has discontinued these brands. This sounds odd as both Blazer and Mini-Mags are two very popular brands of .22 ammunition. Anyone heard anything about this?

I've heard they're mulling dropping Stingers but nothing regarding MiniMags.

I'd heavily doubt it unless they were consolidating other offerings and basically rebranding the MiniMag since it was one of their cornerstone offerings (likely outselling Velocitors and Standards exponentially).

.22, especially US made .22, is one of those things that didn't visibly seem "recover" as heavily as other offerings but I believe that's just because people tend to consume a large quantity of them. Production is well known to have increased quite a bit.

I read on another site that it was just the 40-grainers that were discontinued, but don't know for sure.

I surely hope not; minimags are kind of the Holy Grail for me personally for reliable, reasonably accurate rimfire ammo. There's a lot of 'good' .22 ammo, but minimags are the only ones I've found that are 100% in all my guns. (As long as the guns aren't filthy; if they're filthy nothing's close to 100%)

I hope they don't cancel "Stingers" my wife's Kimber Rim Fire works flawlessly with them.

If they do discontinue them, I may wait for the price to get stupid and could end up with a big profit. Don't know how many exactly I have on hand after using a bunch over Christmas, but I know it's up into five digits...

Like the guys who sold Pmags for $90 each during the post-Sandy-Hook frenzy (which I didn't), I might convince myself to live with my second-favorite load if these can be sold for truly stupid prices...

I'm half tempted to sell my 7N6.

Only half...

My guess is that CCI will either be repackaging Mini-Mags or changing them in some way so that the type that had been in stock has been or will be discontinued. Happens all the time. I suppose I am guessing that because I also do not want to see the Mini-Mag disappear from the shelves, especially the 40 grain weight.

I just sent CCI a message inquiring about this. Hopefully they will get back to me to let me know that the Mini-Mag is alive and well and expected to live a much longer life.

Here is the reply I got from CCI about whether or not they are discontinuing the 40 grain CCI Mini Mags; note they do not say yes or no about them in particular, just that they are making the same ammo, plus more, tat they did last year:

Glenn,

It has been brought to our attention that Sportsman's Guide is sending emails that we have discontinued many rounds of ammunition. This is not the case and we are still making all of the same rounds as 2016 and we have added a few new ones for 2017, you can find these on the at http://www.cci-ammunition.com/default.aspx . We are running 24/7 making and shipping ~4,000,000 rounds of rimfire a day. Sorry for the inconvience as we work to stop these emails being sent.

So I went to the link and this is what I found:

Under Varmint, they list the 36 grain Mini-Mag

Under Small Game, they do not list any Mini-Mag

Under Competition, which has a subcategory once you go to the competition link, they list the 40 grain Mini-Mag HV under Target/Plinking

Under Pest Control/Specialty, they do not show any Mini-Mag ammo

So, CCI's 40 grain Mini Mags are listed in one spot as a 40 grain copper plated round nose round and from that letter it appears they are not discontinuing production of it.

I did not check on CCI Blazer ammo.

All the best,
Glenn B

Thanks for checking. It's possible Sportsman's Guide could not buy the Mini-Mag's at the price they wanted, and so put out the "discontinued" message.
