22 rifle's been braining deer for a century
why pretend 223 can't brain bigger critters (at 2x the range) hmm? Cause you can't get within 100yd, or can't pull a head shot? Cause the best that you can arrange is an ass shot at a running critter at 200 yds? Since there's no need to hunt in the lower 48 states, it's all for sport or for shtf. I'd rather do it with fighting handguns, since it's just a sport. THAT is doing something, and getting some useful info about the "duty" ammo.
If shtf, the shorty AR and softpoints can manage what needs to be done, if any such hunting needs to be done at all. Me, instead of looking for elk, I'm going where I KNOW there's cattle and grain. You can have all that fighting, scrounging, disease, fire, starving, freezing. I"m gonna just ride it out in my hidey hole. and I dont have to waste 10's of 1000's of dollars trying to prep for it, either.
It makes far more sense to be highly skilled with a few really combat worthy guns than to be nothing more than a plinker with many "sport only" type guns. If you're just a plinker or BE shooter, that can be done with airsoft and .177 pellet guns. why waste time and money on being half-assed, when you can be world class for the same money and time?
