I shoot my .45-70 cause I like to, that validates my ownership of it!

There's definitely something to be said for that. Last gun I bought was an El Patron from Uberti; an 1873 clone in .45Colt. Certainly didn't need it, but I knew I'd enjoy it, and having other guns in .45LC I already load the caliber.

"Personal enjoyment" is why I do a fair number of things - from having a radio in my truck to having more than one watch.

Personal enjoyment. That is why I pick up some of the guns I do. Right now have found some nice Smiths, enjoy shooting them. Selling off things I don't care to shoot like a CZ75, a nice SAA, a High Power, decided I do not need 6 ARs so sold one, thinking about selling a M1A or trading it. Another one that is going to be history is a Model 317 Smith Airlite. Does not do a thing for me. Maybe a Super Blackhawk will go, rather shoot a 29. Might trade it for a Model 27 Smith.
Years ago (1977 or so) had a nice gun that just could not warm up to an really wanted to, a Ruger number 1 in 375 H&H mag. Shot nice looked fantastic but.
Traded it off at New Berlin Gun Show, John, you were there, do you remember what for? I forgot.
Another caliber I want nothing to do with is 40 an I have brass, dies, two molds for it but can't bring myself to ever get anything to shoot them. Give me a 400 CorBon!
Enough rambling, time to go pour some Unique in 45 LC cases!

Always wanted a 45 70 but never got one. Another one I wanted was a 444 Marlin for deer hunting in MO but after loosing hunting partner in 1976, have not hunted. That was my Father.

Out of my barrels, using a 145gr. and a 175gr. cast bullet. 145, using 7.0 Unique. with the 175, using 6.5 Unique. Tried Titegroup, not sure how much, will go look. but did not cycle, too low. ( I do not care for TiteGroup in anything)
Want to try 700x and Red Dot.
Loads not too hot in a full size, brass looks good after firing, small primer pocket Starline brass.
Found a box of old CorBon in a shop that had a 11.00 price tag on it! Want to shoot it to compare. 165 JHP 1300fps 619 ft/lbs. That sounds hot to me! This summer, have to get another chrono.
Another thing I noticed was 145 load dropped brass almost in a pile, other one scattered it.
Never tried Jacketed bullets.
Anybody else up your way using it? Couple guys here are shooting some screeching hot loads, not sure if factory or what.

I bought a couple of barrels about 5-6 years back. One for the Gov't Model & one for my Combat Commander. I wish to say that I've done some extensive testing but so far it all been with Unique and Blue Dot and "Montana Gold" 165 grain TMJ bullets. Overall length is 1.245".

I'm currently using sized .45 Super brass, just haven't had time to break in my virgin .400 CorBon brass. 7.5 grains of Unique gives me about 1208.7 fps. Moving up to 7.7 grains of Unique has given me 1537.8 fps.

The main problems that I have encountered are failures to feed, but I suspect I just need the barrel throated and polished. Hopefully by this fall I'll have more time for load development in .400

Joe, after I added a barrel positioner to the slide of 'your" lw commander, swelled open the barrel bushing and added a thicker front sight for John, I got a 1" 5 shot group with it, 50 ft indoors, from Weaver. He treasured that thing after that. :-)
